In the world of natural disasters, the past two years have proven to be absolutely devastating for the United States. Hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and nor’easters are just a few types of disasters that have literally and metaphorically torn our nation, communities, and hopes apart. NY was hit especially hard by Hurricane Irene in August of 2011, Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, and then the icing on the cake, the monster nor’easter in this past February 2013.

While these events have destroyed thousands of houses, buildings, and properties, hundreds of thousands more have been lucky enough to withstand these onslaughts. Yet just because those houses and buildings have survived, it does not mean they have not suffered.

Now, with the summer season upon us and warmer weather creeping in, Allied Roofing and Chimney implores their customers and all other neighbors to take a serious look at their houses and buildings. Just because the aesthetics remain and the obvious seems to be intact and in good shape, it does not mean it is. Natural disasters and severe weather occurrences do a lot more damage than meets the eye. Windows, doors, siding, and other such parts of a house or building are the notable areas which people see on a daily basis. However, in reality, it is the areas that are not typically seen, which endure the most and sustain the most damage.

The roof and chimney are not only seldom seen and often overlooked, but they truly take the brunt of everything weather related. The winds from the hurricanes and nor’easter could have easily torn up some roof shingles, which leaves parts of the roof unprotected. It is also very likely that those high velocity winds, freezing temperatures, and intense amount of snow could have caused cracks in any building’s roof and/or chimney. Additionally, the amount of debris buildup, underneath shingles could cause rot and mold/mildew buildup, thus causing greater damage. This debris could also have clogged up the chimney flue or even the chimney cap.

It is always recommended that roofs and chimneys be cleaned and inspected on a regular basis, suggestible is once a year. However, in light of the weather conditions over the past couple of years, the team of Allied Chimney and Roofing is even more cautious and wary than ever, seriously suggesting that all house and building owners get professional inspections right now, while the weather is nice and before the effects of the devastation’s wear off. Unless inspected by a true professional, the everyday person could easily miss things of importance. It is also important to have all damages fixed by a professional so everything is done correctly and so the work is covered and insured. If damages to the roof or chimney are not taken care of or fixed now, not only can the damage become more extensive, but it will also become much more costly. Even worse, damage to a chimney, be it blockage or a crack, can be harmful, dangerous, and even deadly.
