Just know that Allied Chimney offers full, comprehensive services, to ensure you, your family, and home are safe. Animals and humans, alike, go into hiding or hibernate, trying to stay safe and warm.  Everything else, however, must somehow endure the torture of freezing temperatures, ungodly winds, ice, sleet, and snow.  These elements, however, bare no uncertain mercy, as the homes in the Long Island and New York’s Metropolitan area continue to prove, each and every year.

Chimneys are amongst one of the top victims of Father Winter’s wrath, which causes serious problems both during and after the season.  The chimney problems that can develop, as a result of the harsh winters, are not only extreme annoyances, but can cause serious safety and structural problems.  Therefore, it is important to pay close attention to the function of your chimney.  We, at Allied Chimney want our customers and neighbors to know that we are available 24/7 to help you with all of your chimney problems and emergencies, caused by Father Winter (or not).

Kinds of Winter Chimney Problems

  • Blockages – Snow and ice are infamous for causing blockages, most commonly of the cap, but with wind gusts, they can also get into the actual chimney flue.  If the cap is blocked or even the flue, it will cause poor ventilation, smoke backup, CO2 buildup, and/or sparks that can create fires.
  • Water/Moisture Damage – Rain, snow, ice… they all turn into water, which, in the winter, winds up soaking your chimney, or even getting into it.  Water or moisture damage can cause the deterioration of brick or mortar and jeopardize the integrity of your fireplace.
  • Freezing Water – Freezing water (not just ice), slowly drips into the cracks and crevices of chimneys, which then expands, when it freezes.  The thawing and freezing process creates cracks and damages that must be repaired, but can cause problems with ventilation and structure.
  • Snow/Ice – The heaviness of snow and ice, especially for long periods of time, can take a toll on your chimney.  This will eventually cause damage to your chimney’s structure.
  • Rust – The liquid and solid forms of water can easily rust your chimney cap, liner, and even fireplace box.  Rust is not only metal, which is deteriorating, but it is unsafe, when in the presence of fire.

If you notice any abnormalities or problems with your fireplace or chimney, be sure to call a professional, immediately.   Fire, smoke, and CO2 levels are not elements to joke around about or play Russian Roulette with.  If you are lucky, however, not to experience any problems with your chimney, as a result of the relentless snow and ice, it is of the utmost importance to have your chimney inspected in the spring, before any damage(s) can get worse.  Allied Chimney’s certified chimney experts can inspect your chimney and perform the necessary maintenance, repairs, and replacements your chimney may need, whether it be in the middle of a snow storm or in the welcome springtime air.
